London Tech Salary Guide 2026
These are wide ranges for a reason: the right number depends on your funding stage, how the business is doing and how urgently you’re hiring. We place strong people across the whole band, not just at the top.
London tech salaries in 2026
London remains Europe’s most competitive, and most expensive, market for technical talent. After a turbulent couple of years, compensation at the senior and staff end has held firm, while demand for AI, platform and security specialists has pushed those niches above the general market.
The ranges in the table above are indicative base salaries we see across London’s startups and scale-ups in 2026. They’re drawn from the roles we work on and conversations with the market, a realistic starting point, not a guarantee. For specialist and leadership mandates, AI, payments, security, staff-plus and executive searches, we regularly place above these ranges: treat them as the market’s centre of gravity, not its ceiling.
What moves a London offer
- Seniority and scope. The jump from senior to staff/principal is where ranges widen most. Staff ICs increasingly command leadership-level base salaries.
- Domain. Fintech, AI and regulated environments pay a premium for relevant experience; payments and security specialists especially.
- Stage and funding. Series B+ companies tend to pay higher base; earlier-stage firms lean more on equity.
- Hybrid expectations. Roles requiring more office days sometimes carry a modest premium to offset the commute.
Equity and total comp
Base is only part of the picture. At venture-backed London companies, equity can add meaningfully to total compensation, though candidates increasingly discount it against a clear-eyed view of dilution and stage. Bonuses are common but rarely the headline number.
